Adée - Lean In
One-shot. Black and White. Slow-motion. That’s the whole thing.
Adée had a rough concept of what she wanted the video to be about; she wanted to talk about her sexuality and how people have just assumed the gaps in her personality that they don’t know about her.
People aren’t just black and white.

The video was dropped on QX - Sweden’s biggest gay magazine website, I’m not sure if they’re still in print, but it’s pretty awesome.
There’s not much to say with how we went about the shoot.
I pitched Adée the idea of her and Call Me Unique singing the song at half-speed, we’d film it all in one-shot, then I’d double the speed in the edit and it’d all - hopefully - work.
The girls stuck with the idea, it took a minute for me to explain how and why it’d work - it’s a weird one to wrap your head around, sing in slow-mo but act normal speed. But we did a practice run, I quickly edited it and played it back for them. Then it all made sense.
The girls choreographed a rough idea of what to do where in the song and the Airbnb, then we went for a few takes.
I’m pretty sure the third time is the one that we nailed it with, the girls dug it, I dug it, and that was a wrap!
Looking back, it’s safe to say we spent more time bullshitting and talking about the music scenes of Birmingham whilst waiting for the rough edit to export than actually filming it. That’s not a bad thing, just my goof that I decided to export it in full 4K just to be an arse.
As usual, I’m grateful that Adée allowed me to play in her sandbox of music with my ideas, grateful for Call Me Unique and Maddie just getting stuck in literally half hour after we met, and for QX posting it on their website. I can’t really read the Swedish, but Google Translate did a convincing job of protecting my fractured ego.
